Axie Infinity has cut down SLP rewards from Classic Game

Axie Infinity team explained the action as a part of its efforts to maintain a stable Smooth Love Potion token market.

The token rewards in the form of SLP from the classic game mode have been completely removed from the p2e blockchain game Axie Infinity AXS in order to force players to try out the new game mode named Axie Infinity Origin.

According to the Axie Infinity team, Smooth Love Potions (SLP) will no longer be able to be created in the game’s classic mode as of this Friday. The development team has stated that the SLP rewards will carry over to the new game mode. Minting won’t be accessible for 30 days while the team conducts a monitoring phase to search for bugs, abuses, and exploits.

The development team also made a point of emphasizing how switching from the old to the new game mode will “balance the SLP economy.”Along with eliminating the traditional rewards, the team will also allow crafting different in-game boosts with SLP in the new mode, such as runes and charms, in an effort to increase the utility of SLP.

In an effort to balance the SLP token economy, the Axie Infinity team removed the SLP rewards for the daily quests in classic mode and the adventure mini-game back in February. Despite the team’s efforts to improve the economy, the token’s value has decreased by 98.7% since it peaked at $0.39 in July 2021.

In 2021, the nonfungible token (NFT) game, which accounted for almost two-thirds of all NFT transactions in blockchain games, aided the P2E model’s rise to popularity. The project demonstrated NFT exchanges worth $3.5 billion over the course of the previous year, according to the token information website NonFungible.

The NFT transaction volume for the Axie Infinity project increased 205% in July even though the crypto tokens underperformed during the crypto winter.  The project is “healing,” according to its co-founder Jeff Zirlin, as a result of the positive feedback for the game’s NFT land staking feature.
